Legal & General (L&G) has seen a surge in demand for annuities, reporting record retail annuity sales of £2.1bn in 2024 – an impressive 48% increase on the previous year.  

With today’s annuity rates making guaranteed income products more attractive, more people are choosing annuities for a secure retirement income.

Figures from L&G reveal that both lifetime annuity and fixed-term annuity sales performed well throughout the year. Higher annuity rates and growing awareness of the benefits of a guaranteed income have made these products more appealing to customers. 

The latest figures show that the total value of L&G’s annuity portfolio has now reached £92bn. But L&G aren’t the only company experiencing increased performance. 

With increased sales across the annuity market generally, other annuity providers are also reporting ongoing high interest in annuities from people aged 55+ with money in defined contribution pension pots.
